To bet with the shooter, you must place your bet in an area marked ""Pass Line", before the new shooter rolls the dice. The so-called "Pass Line" is a strip on the table layout marked by two lines roughly two inches wide and it rims the entire table layout across from the Box Man. To bet against the shooter, you must place your bet in an area marked "Don’t Pass". This area is a strip on the table layout and it rims the table directly above the "Pass Line".No matter what stage the game is in, whether on the "Come Out" roll, or in progress, you can jump in immediately and place any bets. The only exception to this is the bet called the "Pass Line" bet with odds", which can be made only on the "Come Out" roll. You can, however, bet with the shooter even while the game is in progress by placing a "Pass Line" bet without odds. Placing your chips halfway over one of the two lines framing the "Pass Line" area does this.

WHY YOU NEED TO HAVE A “DICE” COACH
BY: David Medansky and Raymond Romero

“A dollar won is twice as sweet as a dollar earned.”
- - Paul Newman, The Color of Money

Everyone who plays casino craps needs a coach. Let me repeat that - - everyone who plays casino craps needs a coach! To win at casino craps, a person needs: 1) skill, 2) a strategy and 3) discipline.

While many people know how to make bets at a craps table, they do not necessarily know how to win playing craps. A “dice” coach can teach you the skill necessary to influence the dice, a winning strategy and the discipline necessary to become a consistent winner at the tables.

Precision shooters, sometimes referred to as rhythm rollers, are craps players who know how to consistently set the dice a certain way, grip the dice a certain way and toss the dice in such a manner to produce a non-random occurrence so as to minimize the probability of a 7 appearing, especially after a point is established. Conversely, a precision shooter is often able to set the dice so as to roll a 7 on the come out roll.

A rhythm roller can be compared to a professional athlete. Professional athletes practice hours and hours to perfect their skills. Despite all of their abilities and practice, all athletes have coaches. Baseball players, soccer players, football coaches, hockey players, basketball players, etc. all have coaches. Even Tiger Woods has a coach.

According to Webster's New World Compact School and Office Dictionary coach is defined as “an instructor or trainer as of athletes or actors - - to instruct or train (someone)

Inasmuch as tossing the dice is as much mechanical as mental, a coach is very important and needed. On a recent gaming trip to the craps tables in Las Vegas with my coach and another friend, my coach made a few suggestions to help my friend tossing the dice. After the “coach” made his suggestions, the friend had three long rolls, each in excess of twenty minutes.

The benefits of having a coach are:

1. Dice grip and toss can be analyzed from an objective point of view. A coach can discuss how your toss is being made and make suggestions much as a coach discusses how to approach a shot with a golfer.

2. The coach can keep you focused and avoid being distracted by casinos influences.

3. The coach can observe and record your tosses and assist you in determining your “signature” numbers. Once these signature numbers are determined, a coach can assist you in defining the best betting strategies to take advantage of your own signature numbers.

4. Precision shooting is a learned skill you cannot critique yourself. Constructive criticism is helpful.

5. A coach can video tape your tosses and discuss ways to improve your toss or correct mechanical problems much in the same way a pitching coach can correct mechanical problems with a pitcher.

When my coach and I watched a video tape of some of my practice throws, he noticed some “flaws” with my grip and how the dice were being pitched. The things my coach noticed were not noticeable to me as I was tossing the dice. It helps to be able to discuss various ideas and techniques with a coach.

It is important to have a coach for yourself. Sooner or later your game will begin to suffer and you will get frustrated. Not knowing what the problem is you will try and make a variety of adjustments. Some times they will work but more often than not, they will not work. It is during these times that a coach can be a real asset.

When you're putting your money at risk on a craps table you need to have the confidence that your toss is right on. A short session with your coach can help give you that confident feeling and increase your chances of coming away a winner!

If Tiger Woods, presumably the best golfer in the world has a coach, the question then is why not you?

How long you play depends on several factors, stamina, and bankroll and of course the direction of the game. I have won 43 units in twelve minutes and have played four hours just getting back to even. The longer you play the more exposure you have to the negative odds. There are numerous distractions in a casino, all tugging on your energy. I find that after a couple of hours standing at the table my focus and awareness begins to wane. Take a break with the first sign of fatigue. The tendency for the weekend warrior is to get in as much action as possible. Big mistake! It is better to be patient and have a plan for your sessions with designed breaks. It is better to be selective and cautious in the front end than wishing you had employed more discipline on the flight home. Remember, being in control, is how to eliminate the losing sessions.

Once in a game, play alert to the direction of the game. Just because you have been in the game for only a short time does not mean you have to stand there and slug it out in a losing cause. There has to be some positive energy or financial encouragement to hang with a game. If not, have the discipline to walk. Have the courage to leave a game. Do not allow desperation to affect your desire to play.

When a place bet wins, you are paid your winnings and your original bet is returned. You may take back an active place bet at any time.

Field Bet: A field bet is a one-roll bet. If the shooter rolls a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12, you win even money with the exception of 2 which pays 2:1 or 12, which pays either 2:1 or 3:1. Please see below for more explanation on field bets under Proposition Bets.

The Proposition Bets: Proposition bets either win or lose on the next throw. In general these have the highest house edge of all the craps bets and for the player with any sense are to be avoided completely. Specific descriptions of the various bets are below.

Craps 2: A bet that a 2 will be thrown on the next roll. Pays 30:1. House edge 13.89%.

Craps 3: A bet that a 3 will be thrown on the next roll. Pays 15:1. House edge 11.11%.

7: A bet that a 7 will be thrown on the next roll. Pays 4:1. House edge 16.67%.

11: A bet that an 11 will be thrown on the next roll. Pays 15:1. House edge 11.11%.

Craps 12: A bet that a 12 will be thrown on the next roll. Pays 30:1. House edge 13.89%.

Any Craps: A bet that the next roll will be a 2, 3, or 12. Pays 7:1. House edge 11.11%.

Field Bet: This is a one time bet that the next roll will be a 2,3,4,9,10,11, or 12. The 3,4,9,10, and 11 pay even money. The 2 pays 2:1. The 12 usually pays 3:1 but some tight casinos only pay 2:1. If the 12 pays 2:1 the house edge is 5.56%, if the 12 pays 3:1 the house edge is 2.78%. On the surface this seems like a great bet because 7 numbers win and only 4 lose. However the 4 that lose are much more likely to be rolled.

Button Descriptions
Roll: Clicking on the Roll button after placing a bet starts a new round.

Repeat: Clicking on the Repeat button will repeat all the bets made on the previous round that can be validly placed now.

Clear: Clicking on the Clear button removes all the bets on the table that can be removed.

Most bets can be removed, added to, or deducted from at any time. Exceptions would be the pass and come bets, and you cannot exceed the maximum bet on the odds.

Table Min/Max: Look here to find the minimum and maximum total of the bets allowed.

Bet Regions: When moving the cursor over the bet regions a yellow “tag” will appear that gives the name of the bet, the current amount placed for that bet, and the minimum and maximum amounts that can be placed on that bet.

If a green highlight appears in a region, that indicates this bet can be added to (changed) If a red highlight appears, this bet cannot be increased (but sometimes can be removed)

When you win a place bet, you would first say to the dealer same bet and on the second win you say press it. Repeat the progression of same bet, press it for each place bet win. All place bet wins are independent of each other. You would only use the bet progression for each place bet as you win it. For example: Shooter throws a six, you same bet it. Shooter throws a eight, you same bet it. Shooter throws a eight, you press it. For every new point established, you start from same bet then press it, irregardless of the last point series. If the shooter makes the point you would increase your pass line bet by one unit and take 2X odds. You would make an additional place bet on the five or nine for $

You can be an automatic winner or a loser on a come-out roll. If you are a right bettor, you are an instant winner if you roll a total of a 7 or 11. It is also called to throw a natural. You lose if you roll craps – a 2,3 or 12. If you bet wrong, it is a loss in case of a 7 or 11, and you win with a 2 or 3. A 12, however, is a standoff – otherwise, a player would have an advantage against the house with a Don’t Pass bet. Casino bars 6-6 to have almost as much advantage on the Don’t Pass (1.402%) as it has on a Pass bet (1.414%) In some casinos the 2 is barred instead of the 12, but the house edge is still the same, because both numbers can be made with only one combination of the dice (1-1, or 6-6) If you win or lose automatically on a come-out roll, you still retain the dice and start a new come-out roll.

Some gamblers believe that you can recover your losses by doubling your bet every time you lose. This is known as the Martingale system. The idea is that when you win, the win will be big enough to cover your previous losses. There are two problems with this system: You may run out of money before you win. You can only double your bet so many times because of table limits, and so occasionally you will hit the table limit before winning – and this will be very expensive.
